Frommer's Review
The Jackson House dining room is a modern addition to the original inn , and is now its starring attraction. Its centerpiece is a 16-foot-high stone fireplace, and it boasts soaring windows with views of the gardens. Once settled, you'll sample cuisine that's usually ingeniously conceived, deftly prepared, and artfully arranged by Chef Jason Merrill. The three-course meals begin with offerings such as Maine crabmeat and field greens with shaved fennel, or a foie gras "BLT." The main courses do an equally good job combining the earthy with the celestial; expect dishes such as crispy-skin salmon with a shiitake compote, mustard-encrusted lamb loin chops, an Angus filet served with white-corn polenta and an onion marmalade, or pan-roasted dayboat scallops with a fruity salsa. For dessert, you might find a banana-walnut soufflé, crème brûlée with a cranberry compote, a grilled peach served with a rooibos-tea reduction and cannoli, or a steamed lemon pudding. The wine list is extensive.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
