Twin Farms offers uncommon luxury at an uncommon price. Housed on a 300-acre farm that was once home to Nobel Prize-winning novelist Sinclair Lewis and his journalist wife, Dorothy Thompson, this is a very private, exceptionally tasteful small resort. The compound consists of the main inn, with 4 guest rooms, and 10 outlying cottages -- which are quite expensive -- each with fireplace. (You can even rent the entire property for $24,000 a night if you're really feeling flush.) The owners are noted art collectors, and some of the work on display includes originals by David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Milton Avery, and William Wegman. Rates here include gourmet meals, open bar, and use of all the resort's recreational equipment.
