Berkshire Inn Bed & Breakfast ReviewThe secret to vacationing at Yosemite National Park during the crowded summer months is to stay outside the park at a quiet B&B and then make day trips into the park. Not only is it less expensive, the quality of lodgings and cuisine are usually far better as well. Ergo, consider booking a stay at the Berkshire Inn, a sprawling open-beam lodge built in 1988 on 20 wooded acres just outside Groveland. The owners expect you to treat the inn as your own house in the woods: Enjoy breakfast on the large deck overlooking the mountains, play cards in the sunny gazebo, watch TV on the couch in the family room, or warm up by the wood stove with some complimentary wine. It's so cozy here you might feel inclined to skip a day's foray into Yosemite. The inn consists of six spacious and pleasantly decorated guest rooms and four minisuites, all with private entrances and bathrooms. An extended continental breakfast is included in the rate, and the innkeepers will be happy to arrange outdoor activities -- river rafting, fishing, golfing, bicycling, gold panning, hiking, snow skiing, horseback riding, or wine tasting -- for you. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
