This 1829 landmark was constructed over the site of an old customs house when Ystad was the major port link between Sweden and the Continent. In 1996, a family-owned company took it over and began a program of refurbishing and redecorating that continues to this day. These owners seem to take a personal interest in their guests, many of whom arrive by train or by ferry from Europe; the hotel is convenient to both terminals. Marble sheeting in the lobby and gleaming crystal chandeliers add grace notes. The midsize-to-spacious bedrooms are furnished with sleek modern stylings that are both comfortable and tasteful. Consider visiting the dining room here even if you're not a guest. Chefs prepare Swedish classics and often use regional produce in summer. Breakfast highlights such classic Swedish dishes as Åggakaka, a thick pancake with crispy bacon and lingonberries.
