Zacatecan handicrafts include stone-carving, leatherwork, and silver jewelry. Examples can be found in shops inside the old Mercado González Ortega on Hidalgo, next to the cathedral. There are a lot of silver jewelry shops in the center of town. A few other stores on Hidalgo and Tacuba sell crafts and antiques. Huichol Indians occasionally sell their crafts around the Plaza Independencia. Zacatecas is well known for its stone carvings. Many architects and builders from the United States come to Zacatecas when they need fancy stonework.
