There are few moderately priced or bargain hotels in Zagreb. In fact, unless you go with private accommodations, most options are at the extreme ends of the price and quality curve. However, special rates at the better hotels are sometimes available on weekends, over the Internet, or for multiday stays, but you have to ask. No matter where you stay, you will find clean, adequate rooms with private bathrooms; but except for top-end hotels, Zagreb accommodations are usually bland. Hotel rates in the city usually are not subject to seasonal changes or cash discounts, and most hotels include breakfast.

Private Accommodations

City Centre Hostel, at Tkalciceva 37 (tel. 01/481-85-42; no fees for bookings), is an agency that books budget apartments, rooms, hotels, and hostels.

Evistas, at Senoina 28 (tel. 01/483-95-54; evistas@zg.htnet.hr; Mon-Fri 9am-1:30pm and 3-8pm, Sat 9:30am-5pm, closed Sun), is low on profile but high on service. Evistas specializes in finding private apartments and sobes (rooms) in private homes for frugal travelers staying in Zagreb. It also locates and books city youth hostels, rooms on the coast, and suites in posh hotels if that's your fancy. A couple from Albuquerque waiting in the office for a taxi couldn't hold back their effusive, unsolicited endorsement. "They let us store our luggage here and even found us a place in Dubrovnik. They were an enormous help."
