Frommer's Review
Skiing, hiking, biking . . . you can do it all on "Bear Mountain" north of the city. There are several cafes, as well as ski rental shops and warming huts. You can even explore the medieval fortress of Medvedgrad. By car, the top, Sljeme, is a 20-minute drive from Zagreb's center; and though the uphill turns are rather steep, you don't have to worry about oncoming traffic because the road up is one-way, as is the road down. Be sure you take the correct road down to Zagreb, however: There is another route that goes to the other side of the mountain and ends up in the Zagorje region. You can't go wrong by taking the cable car to the top and back.
