Our choice when we're running low on cash, the El Rio is a very pleasant mom-and-pop operation with one suite, five rooms upstairs, and five downstairs. The motel was built in the early 1960s, and although small, the standard rooms are clean and comfortable, with light-colored walls, simple but attractive decor, and full bathrooms with tub/shower combos. The upstairs rooms have two double beds, with an outdoor walkway and porch affording terrific views of Zion Canyon. The downstairs rooms each have one queen-size bed. The suite has its own private parking area, plus a refrigerator, microwave, extra-large bathroom with a walk-in shower, and use of a private yard, which has a table and chairs and great views of the rock walls of Zion Canyon. Public phones are available.
