Hotel Yasmina

Located at the less busy, north end of Erg Chebbi, the Yasmina has long been a favorite for the budget conscious. A recent addition of a swimming pool has perhaps lifted the prestige of the Yasmina, but the same laid-back, international-traveler vibe remains. The large rooms are in somewhat garish shades but are light, clean, and cool with private bathrooms. Mattresses on the rooftop terrace are also available. The dunes begin right outside the large salon, where the staff -- all local lads -- usually start up a jamming drum session after dinner, which is served in a separate, refined restaurant (bring your own alcohol). Many adventure-tour groups pass through here, but rather than a distraction, this only adds to the atmosphere. A seasonal lake often forms beside the hotel after spring rains, attracting flamingos.
