Perched on a hill, and ten minutes by tram from the city center, this boldly designed and very happening hotel and spa is inside a former brewery, a striking building of whitewashed walls and brick chimneys. The quirky, sprawling interior uses beer crates instead of coffee tables, and in the Library Lounge, 33,000 books are stacked from the floor up to the ceiling, 36 feet above. The pièce de résistance here is undoubtedly the stunning rooftop thermal bath and spa. As a guest, admission is CHF25 (instead of the regular CHF55) to bathe in the indoor thermal baths amid the brewery’s former stone barrel vaults, or soak up city vistas from the open-air heated pool.
