Changes to Sizes on Carry On Bags? Will it Happen? If so, when????
Hello Fellow/Sister Travelers,I just read a VERY confusing article on carry on luggage standards and measurements in today’s NYT Travel Section (p. 2). The article is entitled Tips on Vacationing in Europe This Summer, by Stephanie Rosenblum. Apparently there’s a lot of discussion in IATA (International Air Transport Association) and airline companies about reducing the size allowed for carry on luggage. For years we’ve had the 22” X 14”X 9” bags meeting airline guidelines. Now they’re complicating things by stating bags slightly smaller (21.5”X 13.5”X 7.5”) will be the industry standard, plus a possible IATA Cabin OK logo designation for the smaller new bags. NOWHERE in the article does it say when or definitely if the standards will definitely take hold. Hubs and I are planning a dreamy extended trip to Italy for four weeks in October, beginning 1 October. Our airlines and connections range from several Delta flights to Air France and Alitalia. I’m wondering now if we have to get new carry on bags. We’d planned to pack mostly carry on and check only one large bag to cover the rest of the stuff for the two of us. Have any of you heard about this, and if so, what have you heard? Thanks for your help!
