Need idea for travel with college-aged daughter

by traveld »

Hello- hoping for some advice regarding where to take my 19 y.o. daughter for spring break. My three children all have different spring breaks this year so I'd like to take a mother-daughter trip for the first time and am looking for something special. Will have 10 days in March.

She likes cultural attractions and history. We've done quite a few beach vacations, and also she's a redhead, so that's never been an attraction for her! She is in the SF bay area so there's no problem getting from there to anywhere, though I live in the northern Rockies and have to connect to get anywhere (I can take extra time for travel if needed).

She's been to DC/Philly, the western half of the US, France, UK & Ireland,  and we would like to try something new.

Any ideas would be helpful- so far I've thought of the deep South/NOLA, NYC, Rome (though I'm not sure if we've enough time for that) & Scandinavia (not sure about the weather factor there, though) because she's mentioned that once or twice. Australia & NZ are out because the boys (incl. my husband) would be insanely jealous not to be able to go.  What about Asia? We've never been there, so that sounds very intriguing. And I could actually get to Tokyo with only one stop in Seattle!

Thank you in advance for any ideas.....

Japan is wonderful.  We spent 2 weeks there a couple of years ago during the cherry blossom season.  Japan is interesting, safe, clean, and has a very easy to use transport system

Norway is amazing. One of the best nature trips, views, hiking. I can help you with an itinerary.

I think heading to Asia is a great idea, especially since she's on the West Coast. Japan is fascinaitng and the spring is a lovely time ot go (you might be there for cherry blossom time) or you could tour around China, Thailand, Bali...really, the world is at your fingertips. Probably the least expensive of those options would be China and in a week, you could spend half your time in Beijing and half in either Hong Kong or Shanghai.

I hope this helps. Have a wonderful time wherever you head.

Cordially,

Pauline

Hi There,

If you are planning to visit asia, then why not the fantastic India. India is a great place to be in, the cultural and bright India has so much to offer. Diverse cultures and the historical past is breadthtaking. If you want to get a glimpse of everything on this earth at one go, India is the one travel destination.

Hope this would help,

Tahir

I think any college aged daughter would LOVE NYC.....and I am not just saying that b/c I am a native New Yorker. I live in NC, teach at a college, and know that all of my students adore going to NY. March is a good time to go b/c it won't be too crowded -- the weather is unpredictable that time of year (you could have snow, or early spring). Obviously, lots of cultural activities there, shopping, good eating. Stuff for both you and your daughter to enjoy....and maybe even direct flights for you both!

A friend of mine took her older girls for a week of mahout training in thailand (learning how to work with and train elephants). It looked like an amazing experience for all of them.

I suggest to you to visit the Bohol Philippines. It is the best place to travel with kids.In Bohol you could try the Panglao Beach Island it has white sandy beaches and you can find many resorts there also. Then try to visit some attraction in Bohol such as Chocolate Hills that has a great nature formation along the way you can see the man made forest , the famous Tarsier ,the Floating restaurant, the Prony python also can be found in Bohol
