Peter Pan,

Staying on the monorail if you have little children is a great idea because it makes it easy to escape the Magic Kingdom when they need a nap, and then just as easy to get back to the park for fireworks time.  The Polynesian is gorgeous, and one of my favorite places to stay in Walt Disney World. However, if you also intend to save money, that resort is not the place to do it. In fact, all of the resorts near the monorail will cost you quite a lot. There is only one way to save significantly on a Disney hotel, and that's to stay off-property and drive in. Off-property hotels can cost twice what on-property hotels of the same caliber cost. The cheapest Disney hotels are the in the so-called "Value" class (the Art of Animation, Pop Century, and All-Star resorts) and none of them are near the monorail. You will have to rely on motor vehicles of some kind if you don't pay major bucks.

Our new book on Disney comes out in January, in plenty of time for you to plan your August trip. And there are plenty of money saving tricks in it!

I will be visiting Disney land soon with my family. Could anyone please tell me how to go about planning for the entire trip. Is there any reliable transportation service that will pick us from the Orlando Airport?

If you are staying at a Disney resort they will provide transportation to and from the airport.  We stayed in a log cabin in the Wilderness resort with 2 young children the 2nd time at Disney.  The kids loved it  and we saved a lot by eating breakfast and some dinners in the cabin   Food can be very expensive. First time at Disney the little ones were so exhausted by dinner that they fell asleep at the table in the restaurant and didn't eat the expensive meal

If money is an issue, I would not stay at the Polynesian.  I'd stay off the resort and rent a car.  That's what we did and our 2 bedroom suite was around $90 per night.  We made our own meals and bought groceries and saved a ton of money that way.

Another money saving tip:  bring your own food into the park with you.  You're allowed.

We stayed at a hotel on International Drive. It wasn't anything special, but I thought it was just fine and with what we saved, we could take another day's vacation! We took the shuttle to and from the parks. Worked fine.

Kipgliues2, there are several major transportation companies in Orlando and they would all seem to offer very similar services. Can you tell us specifically what makes your choice better?

Has anyone been to the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party?  Since its almost the same cost for a full day ticket, we were wondering if its worth it?  Are the crowds smaller?  Thanks
