Awful reminder to be careful boarding trains with cross-body bags, backpacks, shoulder bags
A woman who changed her mind about getting into a metro car in Rome tried to leave the car as its doors were closing, but the door caught the bag she had strapped onto herself, and the departing train dragged her down the platfrom. She was badly injured but signs are good she will survive & recover.
In this case, the doors malfunctioned and the train's brakes should have locked, preventing the train from moving until the bag was freed. But Iif you are traveling on a train and trying to rush out before the doors close, especially with cumbersome bags or luggage -- don't. Awful as it can feel to miss your stop, you can always get back. Rushing through train stations and underground transport systems risks many bad outcomes.
