Planning a Honeymoon and Trying to Decide Between the Caribbean and Italy

by Emmel »

I think you should research culture in the Caribbean, and then you can relax and take in some history. You will be exhausted after the wedding and Italy will just exhaust you further. And it sounds to me like when your fiancée says Italy, she actually means all of Europe.

Sorry, but I vote with your fiance. I've been to both several times and it doesn't get any better to me than Italy.  There's nice beaches and Venice is very romantic.   So is Portofino and Capri (though the beaches are tiny).   I just love everything about Italy.   You don't have to cover it all, just pick 2-3 places depending on the length of your Honeymoon and keep it relaxed.

I agree, go with Italy, besides having plenty to see and apease your wife (get used to this, you are married now) you can also relax by indulging in some Gelato!

Sorry but the Caribbean is really dull. This is your HONEYMOON! Do something special. DEFINITELY Italy. Spend an overnight in San Gimignano--the most beautiful hill town. You'll thank me!

I'd agree with Italy. That's somewhere you want to go before you have kids. You want to spend time sitting in piazzas and sipping wine and enjoying all the adult pleasures of Italy! You can go to the Caribbean with kids quite easily (maybe on a cruise). Enjoy your honeymoon wherever you go!

My fiancee and I are arguing about what would be the most romantic (her concern, not mine). I think that after the wedding, we should just relax on a beach, but she's eager to get some culture (she's never traveled to Europe and really wants to see Italy). I'm worried that we'll do too much running around and it won't feel enough like a honeymoon in Italy. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You are a rambling man, Traveling James... all you have to do is plan at least 2 weeks! Travel for 1 week, beach/relax for 1 week. Or break up the travel/relaxing.

If however, you only have a few days (3-5) then decide which to do. Here's a hint:  Happy Wife = Happy Life!

Italy, Italy, Italy, for heaven's sake!   You can, for example, fly directly to Milan for some glamour and fashion and then go to Lake Como for plenty of relaxation--well, not exactly on a  beach, but what's wrong with lakeside?  The hotels are lovely, and there are pretty villages dotted all around.  Your fiancee will have not only the wedding of her dreams but also the honeymoon.   Take it from a long-wedded lady--that is starting off the marriage on the right foot.

I thinkn going to Italy for the 1st time and not seeing the quintessential sights may be difficult. How long is your honeymoon? If you opt for Capri (or Sardinia!) You'll likely have a stop in Rome -- a few days to see it and then go on for relaxation might fit both bills?

Or do the Caribbean and save Italy for an anniversary...

Maybe plan a beach honeymoon in Italy? Sorrento is very romantic. You can take a ferry over to Capri too. Pick one destiantion in Italy. That way you can have your pasta and eat it too.

You realize, of course, that neither the Caribbean nor Italy is in Asia.
