Are People Still Going to Korea?

Or are the problems with North Korea making them stay away? I have a cousin who's considering a trip, but I think she's nuts. Or am I nuts?

I think I read there's been a drop off of tourists there. It seems the Japanese, who used to go a lot, are now avoiding it. But that doesn't necessarily mean your cousin should cancel her trip. Have her look at the State Department website. They have travel warnings there.

I came back from South Korea recently, it's perfectly safe at the moment, I have a lot of Korean friends there and American friends working there as english teachers and they have all said that the news reports coming out of the USA are exaggerating the North Korea situation. If the people living there aren't concerned at the moment then I really don't think your friend has anything to worry about.

South korea is safe right now, the north korean situation isn't a realistic threat by the looks of things

I was just in Seoul, May 3-6.  People were just going about their lives as usual.  No blaring headlines or panic about imminent attacks.  The media and State Department tend to be over-alarmist.

I'll be there in four weeks. No worries.

Looks like the usual North Korean sabre-rattling exercise--they've been doing it for 60 years.

My SKorean friends in SKorea tell me not to worry, and say " if we're not worried, then you shouldn't be" lol.

The U.S. State Department warnings always err on the side of hysterical panic. If people IN the country say it's safe, it probably is.

This doesn't mean that nothing will happen to you, of course. But your chances of getting injured or killed in Korea are probably less than in the typical North American or European city.

I would be more worried about travel to big city's in the US then South Korea.
