Where is is safe for a single woman to be staying in New Orleans?

by msdee »

I will be travelling to New Orleans in July and wonder where safe areas (yet not overly expensive) are for me to stay.  I will be in New Orleans at the end of July for 6 nights.  I am happy with either hotels or B&B and will be walking or taking public transport to visit areas within NOLA.   Whilst I won't be out late at night generally, I do want to feel safe walking around early evening and during the day.  Any suggestions please?

Most everywhere thre are hotels should be safe (there don't tend to be hotels in the less safe neighborhoods in town). I find that the Garden District, while very pretty and safe, is a bit remote from most of the sights (if you're there for sightsteeing). So I'd recommend staying either in the Downtown area or in the French Quarter. Have a wonderful time. It willl be HOT in July, but you'll love NOLA. Don't miss the World War II Museum: one of the best history museums in the U.S.

Best,

Pauline
