Best transit from JFK and LGA to Brooklyn

by loloi2 »

Hi, we will be flying in to JFK and LGA, and will be staying at BKLYN House Hotel on Beaver Street in Brooklyn in August.  Are there many inexpensive AND easy ways to get  to and from the airports to the hotel?  There will be 3 of us flying in and out of one airport, and 1 person flying into and out of the other airport, and will have  about 6 or 7 pieces of luggage all together.     TIA

Alas, inexpensive AND easy are hard to find when it comes to Brooklyn hotels. The shared vans and busses tend to only go to Manhattan. Uber has a sharing service, but with three people you may be at a limit for more of their cars. That being said, Uber or Lyft could be slightly less expensive than a taxi. It all depends on whether surge pricing is in effect. You'll be able to see the price on the app when you ask for a car, so if it's higher than a taxi, abort and get into a taxi line. I'm sorry, but with that amount of luggage I can't in good conscious send you on the Air Train and then into the subway. It will take a LONG time, you'll have to climb a bunch of stairs and transfer trains.

For 2 people it will be easier to take a cab  or Uber. For the one person, it will be cheaper to take public transportation.

The cost of public transportation should be about $7.75 one way using AirTrain and the NYC subway from JFK. It should be about $2.75 one way if using a bus and subway from LGA using a Metrocard. . That is the cheapest option but it will take at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours each way.
