www.romaniantrips.com - a new scam?

by Mary Schimdt »

Looking to book a trip to Romania we got in touch with what turned out to be a phoney tour company hidden under the web site

www.romaniantrips.com

Under the lure of offering budget tours they tell an entire array of lies and misleading stories about guides and  trips to some back roads in Romania but all  turns out to be a sort of a scam. They have bad reviews. Do not send money to www.romaniantrips.com

Just book with a Romania based tour operator.

Avoid Romanian Backroads Tours.

Or better yet, just do it yourself.  Romania is easy to get around and most the places you would want to see are easily accessible by train or bus.  There really isn't a need to have any tour opperators at all, and you generally miss out on many things as well.  Plus they are usually very overpriced.

Unless you are elderly and can't get around that easily, I would definately suggest seeing Romania as a do-it-yourself trip instead...

We diasgree with you Warlord. We have just returned from Romania.

We used a local company and not Romanian Backroads Tours.

Best is private guided tour and I can assure you no train/bus option works unless you want some quick view and skip the countryside.

We used a Bucharest based tour company  with authentic reviews of travelers who do exist !! and real interesting itineraries and found them totaly decent price wise. We dismiss your comment on tour operators being very overpriced. This is not true if you make sure you use the right ones. I am saying this as future travelers better compare prices and options before they book.

On a self guided tour we would have never experienced, seen, heard and visited some of the things/places we have experienced, seen, heard and visited with our private tour guide. Our tour was custom made and we're glad we managed to get to see Romania at a time of great change before it gets too modernised.

I strongly suggest seeing Romania on a private tour with a guide.

Well that's your opinion.  From what I've looked at and seen, Romania is very easy to get around and travel to.  Especially seeing all the major sites and attractions there really isn't a need to spend a lot of money doing it.  If you do want to have the luxery being driven to every destination, then that's up to you.  For many travelers, you can see the same things a tour operator will do with a drastically cheaper price tag attatched to it.

Plus there are a lot of scams out there as was mentioned, but if you have the need to get a tour operator (if you are elderly or don't want to worry about anything such as hotels, transportation etc) then yes, do your research.  But so much of Romania (and any other nation) is where the tour operators don't take you too.  You only see the most touristy places with such operators and miss out on many of the inbetween things that are far more authentic and not as Westernized for the tourist community...
