Flying SAS airlines to Scandinavia and upgraded seats?

by twint31 »

It has been suggested to us that this is a great airlines to fly with to get to Scandinavia (for us it will be Copenhagen/Sweden).  We noted they have up-graded seats called "business saver".  Has anyone flown with this airline and upgraded?  Is it worth the extra money to do?  We were thinking of flying from our city (St. Louis) to Chicago and then out of there, but perhaps there is a better city for us to fly out of?

I've flown with the airline, but haven't upgraded (I'm 5'2). I just don't think it's worth the money unless you're large and economy class would be uncomfortable. It's not considered the very best for biz class, frankly. That would be one of the Asian airlines.

As for which city to fly out of: that will all depend on what deals you find. I'd assume you'll pay less from Chicago, but look at a search engine like Momondo or Kayak to make sure.

Have a wonderful trip!

What are you looking for in an airline? Swanky comforts and pampering, or no-frills but reasonably comfortable voyage at huge savings? For the latter, try Norwegian (I just did BOS-Oslo-Warsaw for very cheap), or Iceland Air (I just did Paris RT), or even WOW - but add up the baggage fees even if you travel light.

Haven't flown WOW yet, but bnoth Norwegian and Icelandic were fine, I'm 6'2" and had no discomfort. You bring or buy your own sandwich (or pre-order/prepay), ours was very good, and the stopover for a good hour in Reykijavik is actually a welcome leg stretch and snack opportunity - after that it's only about 3 hours more to Europe.

We flew SAS  from Copenhagaen to Newark last year and will again this year.   We found that the economy seats had more legroom than several other airlines we previously used.  Unless one of you is very tall, it should be comfortable.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks to all of you for your responses.  We booked with SAS and did upgrade, so we'll see how it goes.
