One Week in South Dakota: Rushmore and???

by AllPacked »

I've been thinking for a long time about going to Mt. Rushmore...I guess more or less since North by Northwest, and might go this summer...but what else in South Dakota would make a reasonable week's vacation without too much driving? Is the Corn Palace really worth seeing? I'd like to do no more than a couple of hours a day driving once we get there.

Thanks!

Don't know which direction you're coming from, but the Badlands NP is interesting as is Wall Drug in Wall, SD.

People also enjoy seeing the Crazy Horse carving, which can be done in the same day at Mount Rushmore, and if you can brave the bad roads and uneasy, impoverished location, Wounded Knee is a very illuminating stop. That's on the Pine Ridge reservation. But the Badlands are plenty to occupy you for a full day.
