Bora Bora Holiday (plus one?)

by sarahv »

Originally, we'd been planning an Oceania Cruise, but have decided it gives us too little time on land. Tahiti has always interested me. We're thinking of just doing Bora Bora, but is that enough to justify the long, long flight? Or should add another destination? Thanks for any suggestions.

This trip will cost you a pretty penny, so I suggest you spend just $19.99 on this DVD by travel maven Rudy Maxa. It will show you what there is and why you will have a grand old time in Tahiti including Bora Bora, and then you'll be in a position to decide whatever else - if anything - you want to build into the trip:

Enjoy!

Bora Bora is very, very beautiful though in a way, it's kind of like being in a Polynesian version of France. If you want both culture and beauty, I'd recommend going to the Cook Islands or Fiji instead.

A Polynesian version of France? That's a puzzling statement. A French "protecturate" historically, sure, but less culture than Fiji, a former British colony and currently the pariah of the region having been kicked out of the Pacific Islands Forum? What culture I wonder?

People always think of Bora Bora because it has the most famous name of the islands of French Polynesia, but honestly, it caters mostly to honeymooners and couples, and its prices are high. But the country has a bunch of other islands that will offer similar experiences, and they are more conducive to people who want to spend time exploring and hiking. My favorite are Moorea and Huahine--both are easily accessible from the main airport of Papeete, and staying there will be cheaper than Bora Bora.
