Trying to choose which Texas Cities to Visit

by Marlene »

We are two  experienced travelers who dislike packaged bus tours.

We want to go to Texas,  having never been, and wonder  whether to set our sites on Austin, San antonio, or Dallas areas for about 5-7 days.

We  like history and  cultural sites., fine dining.., wandering/walking  about.

We prefer not to  rent a car, but are willing to do so.. We prefer to  take a day tour or hire a guide and driver if necessary. to see major tourista places. outside the city.

The hotel of choice would be in the best central location  in whichever  city we choose.

HELP!!
thank you

San Antonio's Riverwalk area sounds like a good match for you; look it up online. Take a look at the Marriott property on the Riverwalk for lodging.

PAWeber is right. You'll likely need a car in the other two towns, but you can do San Antonio without one and the Riverwalk was just recently expanded to much hooplah. If you're willing to drive, the museums, historic sights and fine dining of Dallas are also worthwhile.

Of the three, I'd go with either San Antonio or Austin.  I lived in Austin for a few years and frequently visited San Antonio. Both are interesting.

What a wonderful vote of approval hulahips! I, too, have always been happily surprised by Texas. Dallas, especially, seems like a forbidding, cold city (because of all the skyscrapers) until you start visiting all its wonderful cultural institutions and restaurants. And Fort Worth, right next door, is everything you hope the "Old West" will be. Such fun!

San Antonio is most likely the nearly all visited city in Texas and provides plenty of freelance writers for hire... always you choose, December will be a beautiful time of year to trip.
