Getting Around the Games
Skip the airport rental desk or leave the car at home: The Vancouver Olympic Committee chose to ban private-vehicle parking at the venues in order to reduce congestion. Instead, ticket purchases will entail an additional "fulfillment fee" that provides the ticket holder with a public transit pass for Metro Vancouver or Whistler good for the date of the ticketed event. Complimentary parking will be provided for transit-pass holders at designated Olympic park-and-ride locations.
The new Canada Line branch of the SkyTrain (
www.translink.bc.ca) will be particularly useful to Olympic visitors, providing fast, affordable transportation from Vancouver Airport into Downtown and also between Downtown and the Olympic Village and the Richmond Olympic Oval.
Ticket holders for events at Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver will be required to purchase a 1-day round-trip pass for C$12, which will get you from Downtown to the mountain.
Between Vancouver & Whistler
Spectators attending events in Whistler must travel from Vancouver by official Olympic bus along the Sea to Sky Highway and pay a C$25 fulfillment fee on top of their ticket cost. There will be no parking for private vehicles at any of the Whistler venues.
Transportation Within Whistler
During the games, transportation between venues in Whistler will be provided by an enhanced WAVE (Whistler and Valley Express;
http://bctransit.com/regions/whi) public transit system, with a "fulfillment" fee tacked on to ticket sales to cover transportation.
Getting Transit Info
During the Vancouver 2010 Winter and Paralympic Winter Games,
www.vancouver2010.com will serve as a hub for information on public transit between venues, with continually updated timetables, maps, travel conditions, and news on traffic flows around the venues.
