Reader's Voice

Road Trip with Pet Rat
From June Andujar: "We are moving to NJ and my daughter will be heartbroken if she has to leave her pet rat behind. Has anyone ever taken a small animal on a road trip? How did you manage site seeing? It will be too hot to leave the rat in the car. We can't leave the rat at the hotel because we'll be checking out and drivng to our next destination. Makes it difficult to stop along the way for any length of time. We'll be driving from San Diego to NJ. Thanks." more>

Independence Air
From Tom J: "In Frommers.com's May 19 announcement of Independence Air it was stated, 'Independence Air's sole downside is that it flies into Washington Dulles Airport, which is nowhere near DC. It's out in the Northern Virginia suburbs. On the other hand, it's no farther from DC than Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and plenty of people fly Southwest into BWI to get to DC.' In reality, Dulles (IAD) is 20 miles from DC city center, whereas BWI is approximately 40 miles." more>

Finding Hotels with Wi-Fi
From Richard Bowden: "Lots of hotels are now advertising free hi-speed internet, but has anyone found a good way to find the hotels with hi-speed access or wi-fi when you are booking online?" more>

Using Package Trip for One-Way Travel
From Jerry Clay: "Can you book a Europe trip package that has round trip airfare in the package but only use the flight one way and make your way back by different means?" more>

New Taxes to Visit French Polynesia
From Marie Kilker: "Have booked a cruise to Tahiti and other related islands. Just informed by travel agent that the Government of French Polynesia has imposed cruise and tourism taxes of U.S. $49 per person for visits to French Polynesia. Since we have already paid for our cruise, the extra amount is being charged to our shipboard account. We don't like this, but it is not the fault of the cruise line; we were informed as soon as it was informed. I just thought people considering French Polynesia as a destination would want to budget for this new fee." more>
