There have been equal parts buzz and whining recently from major airline executives about how they need to change their businesses or go under. United Airlines got dissed by the federal government last month when airline executives went to Congress begging for money. Northwest's mechanics plan to picket the airline to protest "outsourcing" maintenance to foreign countries, US Airways is demanding big salary cuts from its employees, and Delta's chief executive admitted the big airlines have to change or die.
A little bit of legroom goes a long way. That was Matt Daimler's thought when he started SeatGuru.com back in 2001. Three years later, the site is the number-one place to look for inside tips on where to sit on 21 different airlines, from JetBlue to Qantas.

From Trixie Bee: "Check out www.citymundo.com for great deals on studios, apartments, penthouses, and houseboats in Amsterdam! They are all very reasonably priced and really nice. My now fiance (he proposed during our Amsterdam trip!) and I stayed in an apartment we found through city mundo and we loved it because it felt like home. It was fun to pretend that we lived there for a week."
From Edie Banducci: "We hear so much criticism of airlines now that I thought I'd put in a good word for United. We flew from San Francisco to London and were satisfied with the service. YES, the seats are not big enough but I don't think they are any smaller than on other airlines. Departure and arrival were on time. The line was not too long for checking in. The luggage arrived with no damage. The meals were fine and better than on other airlines I've used. My husband even had champagne with his dinner. The flight attendants were professional and patient."
From Bill Yost: "Just returned from NS. It was fine -- very peaceful and relaxing. Don't know that it was worth going all that way for peaceful and relaxing. People were friendly, and we enjoyed the NS International Tattoo in Halifax. It's a place of small pleasures -- though, again, it was a bit far to go for small pleasures. Cape Breton is the best area -- it has nice scenery."
From Lizz Singh: "I just returned from a three day trip to Grand Bahama Island. I took a day trip with Kayak Nature Tours. Our guide was Cosmo, and he was just amazing. He really tailored the tour to the interests of the people on the trip. We saw some caverns, then took an amazing kayak trip through the mangroves, where we saw every species of fish that you could imagine."
From Peter Mitchell: "We have just returned from a week in Panama and, despite the oppressive humidity, were thoroughly delighted with most of our vacation. We spent four days at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, which is located on the Chagres River and Panama Canal, about 30 minutes from Panama City. Thank goodness for the air conditioning! Our room with two double beds had a balcony with a hammock, which was quite enjoyable. The room also had an enormous bathroom with beautiful blue tiles."
