During winter, fares to Europe often plunge down to sub-freezing levels. It may seem odd, in the middle of summer, sweltering with your air conditioner cranked up, but airlines are already thinking about those winter fares -- and if you're the type who plans ahead, you can cool yourself down by booking a cheap trip for November or December right now.
Costa Cruises cracks the champagne on its newest fleet member, the CostaMediterranea; Holland America follows Carnival's lead and adds new Caribbean cruise routes from historic Norfolk, Virginia.
If you mention "Frommers.com Newsletter" before booking, you'll get $100 off the already low price of a classic winter tour to Turkey this year, a 14-day deal costing just $1,399 before the discount.
Ritz Tours, a long-time leader in Asian travel just announced Super Summer Savers to Beijing, Bangkok, Shanghai and Hong Kong for travel during July and August, 2003. From Mike Frederick: "I'm sure people are tired of hearing about SARS at this point but I have a word of warning to folks who purchase travel insurance thinking they'll be protected in case of cancellation. "
From Gina E: "Three of us had been considering going to Thailand over the Christmas/New Years's holiday. My sister is now reluctant to go after reading about several arrests of terrorist cells in Thailand. We are seasoned travellers, but the newspaper articles are making her think we should plan a trip somewhere else. Does anyone have any information on this?"
From Sandra F: "Just back from week in Paris and 5 days in Bordeaux. Beware of ongoing transportation strikes and check out ahead whether planes and trains are going day you are traveling. Paris was great. Parisians could not be more helpful. Stayed in great hotel in Latin Quarter. Weather warm and museums great. Be ready to do much walking. Used Carte Orange which was great."
From Tim S: "I'm planning a trip to Europe, preferably Germany (Bavaria area) and Austria. It looks like the only time myself and my wife will be able to go is during Oktoberfest. I have friends who used to be in the service, and they informed me that they enjoyed Oktoberfest, but that it was very crowded and a crazy atmosphere. This will be my first time to Europe, and I wanted to know if Oktoberfest mainly kept itself to the Munich area or if made the whole Bavarian area congested."
From Ann Oliver: "I hope that someone can help me locate a foreign language translator for restaurants. I saw some in a bookstore about a year ago. The store no longer has information on how to order. The menu cards were the size of a credit card. There were different cards for France, Italy, Germany, etc."
