Gas prices have come down from their record highs, but they're still not as low as they were a year ago. These websites track gas prices around the country, helping you save.
While the elusive, bejeweled bird of movie fame is the stuff of myths, this beautiful Mediterranean island can still claim a rich 7,000-year history and the highest concentration of landmarks per square mile in the world. Now providers are offering packages at prices that won't set you back anything close to the legendary golden bird.
It's no secret that prices in Caribbean resorts fall during the summer. Most would attribute these deals to the hot weather and the chance of hurricanes. One resort says the climate is very comfortable on its breezy hillside, another thinks that a twofer should be enough incentive to lure those weather-wary travelers. To top it off, one consolidator is lopping airfare for a second traveler to just a buck.
Now's the time for extra savings on packages to two of the most popular destinations for the American traveler. Early booking deadlines are set to fizzle out at the end of the month.

From ColRockies1964: "My daughter graduated from high school in June and I followed through on my promise that if she made honor roll all four year, I would take her on a vacation to the country of her choice. Her choice: Italy. I had been there 20 years ago but was more than ready to see it again. Here's where we stayed in Rome, Florence, Lucca and Venice."
From Sandy Carnevale: "Our family of four had a wonderful vacation on Maui. As members of the Disney Vacation Club, we stayed at the Kapalua Bay Hotel for two nights and the Sands of Kahana for seven."
From Diane Panasci: "I just read your July 14 article with surprise and dismay. After visiting San Francisco every year since 1986, I have seen many changes -- some good, some bad -- but no change took away my love for this incredible place. I think that going to San Fran and heading off first thing to Fisherman's Wharf, you were asking to be disappointed. It is touristy. It is meant to be, but some people actually like that."
From Laura R.: "I am going from Newark NJ to Philly this weekend. Looks like I'll be taking NJ Transit to Trenton then switching to SEPTA. The total cost is $11.50 roundtrip to Trenton and then $5 roundtrip Trenton to Philly for a sum total of $16.50. Guess what an Amtrak ticket from Newark to Philly costs? Over $200! I really wish the government would deregulate and privatize the rail lines. Amtrak's prices demonstrate that they are not interested in being even remotely competitive."
Jay Finkelstein: "I have just returned from a three-week family safari, Kilimanjaro climb, and Zanzibar vacation which I planned through Good Earth Tours and Safaris. This company, about which others have previously inquired on this message board, provided the highest quality of service at a most affordable price which was significantly lower than other operators I priced."
