In recent months, several North American airlines have started selling food on board domestic flights. Are these meals deals? Sascha Segan reports.
Here comes fall, and even the more conservative outfits are getting in on the act, some at prices nearly as low as the summer miracles. Does a three-night trip to Manchester, England (home of Manchester United, David Beckham's former club, and the world's biggest soccer enterprise) sound right to you, for $398 out of New York, for instance? Or four nights in Germany, from $599?
Few people outside the state of Washington know about the Cascade Loop, but word is getting out. If you like driving long stretches of gorgeous mountain scenery without meeting another vehicle, this is your stretch of road.
We're glad to see two new discounts that can bring the fare for trips to NYC down by 20%. And if you're hankering to roam California, we've found a pass for that, too.
A new Frommers.com newsletter feature, the Cruise Spotlight will showcase a different cruise line each month, from ultra-luxe to ultra-adventurous and everything between, all with special deals for Frommer's readers only. From N B: "An article on Frommers.com suggests that staying downtown with kids is not recommended. However, the hotel rates there are awesome. I found 3 nights at the Fitzgeralds for 126 bucks including taxes. Can someone with kids let us know of their experiences staying downtown and why it should be avoided?"
From Rachel Parker: "I just returned from St. Thomas. My brother had a wedding at the Renaissance and we had a wonderful time. We flew into Charlotte Amalie, and took a $9 taxi to our resort. The ride there went over the top of the island ¿ a very roller coaster ride, magnificent views, but my Aunt is scared of heights and she was terrified. Later, a local told us that you can tell the driver to go through town, and that way you won¿t get the hair-raising ride. I personally like the hair raising version. You can get some beautiful pictures of the island if you have your camera ready."
From Dave Corl: "Watch out as a single male traveler in Athens. I was near Syntagma when I was approached by the 60 + "George" who was overly kind and complementing. He later tried to get me to agree to have a drink at an establishment he knew."
From Dallasite: "Our daughter is in the Air Force in Europe. We are interested in including her on a Mediterranean cruise this fall, but she is subject to being deployed to Iraq or elsewhere. Is there any cruise line that will refund her fare or credit all of it for a future cruise in the event she is deployed at the last minute?"
From David Andre: "Santa Clara ¿ Silicon Valley Central has attractions for everyone. Whether it¿s riding roller coasters, learning how computer chips are made, shopping at upscale malls, or visiting the past, you can find it here. (List is in no particular order)."
