Chart a Course for Savings with Discount Cruises
Here are some of the best deals the major online sellers are advertising this week. The best bets are two seven-day Caribbean itineraries starting from $299, that's just $37 a day. more>

Say Aloha to Autumn With Low Fares to Hawaii
Hawaii is always paradise. Spring, summer, fall, winter, it doesn't matter; the place is blessed. Several airlines right now are claiming to deliver similarly blessed fares to this balmy archipelago, but travelers should beware -- the loudest sales aren't the best. more>

Frommer's Cruise Spotlight: Norwegian Cruise Line
It's one of the most innovative of the mainstream lines, making its mark with an always-casual onboard atmosphere, an almost ridiculous number of dining options and more, like a special discount for our readers. more>

Canadian Christmas Caravan: Take Seven Days Switching from Rails to Resorts
It's a weeklong journey between Calgary and Vancouver (you can go either direction) on the famed Rocky Mountaineer train taking in the snow-peaked mountain scenery with a three-day break in Banff for some serious skiing. Prices start from $859 per person, based on double occupancy. more>

You Automatically Win This "Bar" Bet For Caribbean Discounts
Each year, the tourism authorities on the winsome Caribbean island of Barbados try to seduce travelers with a range of discounts they call "Best of Barbados." This year's slew of discount packages is even better than usual, with big Barbadian bonuses going to folks who want to travel this fall. more>

Look to the South Pacific (to be Specific) for Price-Perfect Packages
Choose from picture-perfect French Polynesian islands of Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti, or go farther afield to the more ethnically diverse and friendly Fiji for an idyllic fall or winter vacation. We've found some not-insane pricetags to these beauties in the South Pacific. more>

Reader's Voice

Antarctica and Quark Expeditions
From Kevinsac: "This December, we will have accomplished a dream; we will have visited seven continents in seven years once we arrive in Antarctica. I am very excited about this trip and hope to learn a lot about this largely-unexplored territory. We will be travelling on the M/S Orlova, arranged thru Quark Expeditions. My only fear: a nasty 36-hour journey across the Drake Passage. Has anyone taken this or similar trips to Antarctica? Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated, including comments about Ushuaia, Argentina." more>

Veterans Advantage Organization
From Ronald Stalker: "As a result of a write-up in Frommer's newsletter, I joined Veterans Advantage mainly because of their promise of deeply discounted hotel rates. The first thing I did after joining was check their rate for Motel6 in Washington, D.C. I then checked this against Motel6's Internet price, which was $10/night lower than the Veterans Advantage price. On top of that, I could save another 10% with my AARP membership. Does anyone out there have anything good to say about this organization and their hotel pricing?" more>

New Orleans at Halloween
From Joe Oleksiewicz: "We're going to be in NO the week of Halloween. Any suggestions for places or activities that might be suitable for that time & place?" more>

Hoover Dam Tours: Which One?
From N. Mattern: "Can anyone recommend the best tour company to use to visit Hoover Dam and Lake Mead? We'll be staying at the Mirage. Are there companies that you would recommend that would provide transportation there? Thanks!" more>

Unhappy with Cruise Value Center
From Terri Abeloe: "I phoned Cruise Value Center and was told that the advantage of booking with them over the phone vs. online was that if the prices decreased we would receive a refund. When this happened 3 weeks prior to sailing, I phoned and they said the cruiseline wouldn't give them a credit. When I gave them an opportunity to make it right anyway they refused! Be careful what you are told. I will never use that agency again." more>
