Canadian visitors to America, including those "snowbirds" who fly south for the winter, have long suffered an exchange rate which gives them only about 70¿ to their dollar. That makes a big difference, especially for long trips or extensive stays, so the Daytona Beach Area Visitors Bureau has decided to do something about it.
I praised Sunny Land in this space recently for its $299 roundtrip airfares to Paris and Amsterdam, lasting through May of 2003. With war jitters and the economy still not helping to encourage tourism to Europe, the fares are sagging lower each day. Now comes Sunny Land to say that for $100 more, you can stay three nights in Paris.
"By now, we should all be willing to put our faith in the National Trust for Historic Preservation, responsible for saving hundreds of places around the country for posterity. Affiliated with the Trust is the Historic Hotels of America group, which is interested in the same thing--keeping our heritage instead of throwing it out, or allowing it to slide away unnoticed."

From Mary Ann Offer: "While in San Antonio for a convention, my husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Wyndham Fairmount, which is a 32-room, historic hotel just a block from the Riverwalk. Our room was spacious and very attractive, opening onto a very pretty courtyard. Alma, the warm and personable desk clerk, started everything off just right for us, and we really had a great three days there."
From C. Stephens: "I can tell you where not to stay in Co Springs. Skip the La Quinta on Garden of the Gods Parkway and I-25, I paid $100 a night and the bathroom was broken. Had to go down to the front desk in the middle of the night in the pouring rain (outside rooms too by the way) for a plunger. They would not send anyone up to work on it either. Don't waste your money there. On the good side, the Italian restaurant next door was absolutely wonderful. But unfortunately, I don't remember the name of it. It's just to the east of the hotel which you can see from the interstate. Great vegetarian menu too."
From Laurie Petersen: "Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best way to see films at Sundance Film Festival? We will be there the second weekend and are trying to compare the Awards Weekend Pass which you can purchase already on Oct 22 or individual tickets which do not go on sale until Jan 7. Is it likely we will actually get any tickets if we wait until January? Also any other "insiders" tips about the festival would be much appreciated."
From Ann Miller: "We would like some information from anyone who has vacationed in the Biloxi area. We are staying in one of the casinos there next February. Do we need a rental car or is there transportation in the area, especially from theGulfport airport? What are the top things to see and do? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!"
From Travelpat: "I wish to go to Glacier National Park this summer and then on to Jasper. I wanted to fly into Glacier and out of Edmondton but have not been able to find a rental car which allows me to drop off in the 2 different countries. Only hertz which charges $500 on top of rental. Any ideas?"
