Winter marks the "quiet season" at national parks, and that generally means seasonal activities like skating and skiing, lower rates, fewer people, more solitude, and lots of excuses to drink hot chocolate.
Even for big-time city attractions, paying retail may be a thing of the past. For events and major sites in nine of the biggest cities in the world, thank the folks at CityPass who have made it easier and less expensive for you to enjoy some of the world's greatest museums and city sites. Now, with a Winter Extension good in New York, Hollywood, Philadelphia and Seattle, the typically nine-day discount pass lasts from December 15, 2005 to March 31, 2006. In Boston, CityPass lasts all year round.

I think Taiwan compares favorably to Hong Kong and Singapore, as the country is vastly bigger than either and offers far more in the way of outdoor adventures, scenic resort facilities, and a genuine Chinese culture that has been preserved and nurtured.
If there were one word I could use to describe San Juan, Puerto Rico right now, it would be "redevelopment". Old San Juan area is a buzz with restoration projects, bringing the 18th and 19th century historic buildings to life again, with bright coats of paint, transforming once crumbling facades into art galleries, stunning private homes and boutique hotels.
