The park plan allows for new construction at a lodge and new road construction to fix a decades old bottleneck on the only road which leads out of the valley near Yosemite Falls. A group of concerned citizens have sued saying this plan would ultimately put commercial development interests ahead of the natural health of the Merced river ecosystem.

Dust off those hiking boots, put on the sunglasses and sunscreen and get ready to breathe in some sensational fresh country air as spring hits the country's National Parks. In celebration of a new season, several Parks are offering deals to entice you out of your home and back to nature.

Although it can be a lot of fun to combine several national parks in your vacation trip, try not to make the all too common mistake of attempting to see everything there is to see in too short a period of time. Be realistic about how much you want to see at each park, and create an itinerary that lets you thoroughly enjoy one or two aspects of a park.

Stretching from Maine to Georgia through 14 states and over 2,100 miles, the Appalachian Trail is as historic a trek as any other national park walk east coast or west.

From jamie123170: "My friend and I are first timers to Colorado. We are active people looking to white water and hike. We would like to see Boulder and then maybe Estes Park (Rocky National Park )or go to Utah to the Moab area (5-6 hour drive) and hike there. Has anyone done a Denver to Moab trip in one week? Would it be too much to do or does Rocky Mountain National Park have white water and good hiking?"

From linburt79: "My husband and I will be traveling to Yosemite from LA May 10-13. We will be leaving early on May 10 (I am anticipating about a 7 hour drive if we time traffic right) and have reservations at the Ahwahnee for 3 nights. We will basically have 2 full days in Yosemite. We are looking for tips on the highlights to see."

From proto83: "Finally, we know that we want to see just one park this time, the Glacier, and we have one week to do it. We will fly to Kalispell, and rent a car, so we can be more flexible. I need to check if we can drive up to the Canadian side of the park with the rented car. I am trying to figure out a loop, so we can come back at the airport. Any suggestions?"

From gabe's mom: "I would like to plan a trip to the Smoky Mountains. Our children are ages eight and 12. They are both happiest outdoors! Any recommendations for what to see, do, and where to stay? I have never been to Gatlinburg and thought perhaps of staying there but have become hesitant in reading about the traffic. Any suggestions for resorts with cabins, condos, etc. would be appreciated!"
