The Last Blasts of Winter: Ski Deals from $86 per Night

By Carrie Havranek
April 7, 2008

If winter has somehow escaped you or you need another skiing fix before spring finally surfaces and settles in, there is still some powder, so that means there are still some deals.

Book It (tel. 888/782-9722; www.bookit.com) is offering a special on Forest Suites Resort, which is located in South Lake Tahoe near the casinos. It's a three-star property available from $86 per night for suite accommodations, with special incentives: if you stay two nights during the week, you save 15%; if you stay three nights from weekdays to weekends, you can save 20%, and if you stay four nights, you can save 25%. The rate is subject to availability and is valid through May 1. If you can move fast, Book it has another promotion, this one for the Inn at Aspen. The resort offers ski-in, ski-out service to Buttermilk Mountain, is available from $129 offers guests every third night free, but the offer is only valid through April 13.

If you want a chi-chi ski trip In Vail, Colorado, the high-end Lodge at Vail (tel. 877/LAV-ROCK; http://lodgeatvail.rockresorts.com) is available at reduced rates -- a three night package is available through April 19 for $424 per night, with daily lift tickets and breakfasts included -- it's drop of more than $200 off the high-season rates. Make sure you opt for "skiers escape package" when you book. The eco-friendly hotel is located in Vail village at the base of the mountain and uses only 100% wind energy.

The Lodge at Snowbird (tel. 800/232-9542; www.snowbird.com) located in the idyllic-sounding Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah, has a special valid through May 4 for $99 per person, per night. The special promotion also includes a free Snowbird tram and chair passes each day, which saves you $69 per day. It's a well-rated resort according to Skiing magazine, and it's geared toward its recently renovated studio and bedroom unit accommodations, which also come with high-speed Internet access. The north studios possess gas fireplaces and full kitchens, too. You must act quickly, though, because April 10 and 18 are already sold out.

Mammoth Mountain (tel. 800/MAMMOTH; www.mammothmountain.com), in California on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, has a spring fest package valid for arrivals April 20-May 16, from $111 per night. If you stay for two nights or more, you can receive a lift ticket for each person, based on how many nights you stay. Accommodations can include the Mammoth Mountain Inn, (at 9,000 feet on the mountaintop) Juniper Springs Resort (condos and town homes), the Village Lodging (in the heart of town) and Tamarack Lodge and Resort (a lakeside property of cabins and lodge rooms). The lift tickets are valid for the day after you check in.

Orbitz (tel. 888/656-4546; www.orbitz.com) has a sale on ski packages that include airfare to several destinations out west, including Breckenridge, Aspen, Park City and Jackson Hole. Prices in Breckenridge start from $98 per night on average for the Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center, or $341 per person for three nights of accommodations plus roundtrip airfare (based on late April departures from Chicago). Orbitz has a special offer for this property that grants you 15% off if you stay three nights or more, valid for arrivals through May 31. Or select Destinations Resorts Snowmass, in Snowmass Village, near Aspen. It's priced on average at $99 per night and $339 per person for airfare and three nights of accommodations.

Ski.com (tel. 800/908-5000; www.ski.com) has a number of specials running at the moment, including one in Jackson Hole at the Four Seasons, priced at $827 per person for a three-night stay that includes two days of skiing and roundtrip airport transfers. The price reflects mid-week to weekend travel, and if you want to include airfare Ski.com can assist with that process. The Four Seasons has a full service spa, ski rental shop, outdoor pool, and three outdoor hot tubs.

Across the pond, in Germany, you can stay for seven nights, through April 30, from $984 per person. The rate includes roundtrip shuttle bus transfers from the Munich airport to the hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Bavarian alps, along with a six-day ski pass, and reflect mid-week to weekend seasonal travel.
