By Avital Binshtock June 24, 2008 Despite the flailing U.S. economy and the burgeoning "staycation" movement in response to the recession, Americans in the know can still travel to some of the world's top cities -- and travel well. The deals outlined below, which include packages, special hotel offerings, and airfare sales, will help keep your wallet fat even while you indulge in seeing the world. All prices are per person unless otherwise noted. See "The deal," "How much," and "When" for details about associated taxes, fees, and travel restrictions. Note that "How much" is our best estimate of what the trip will cost and that taxes and fees can vary based on point of departure and travel dates. Deals are subject to availability, so confirm before booking. New York City The deal: The Kitano New York, a Japanese-owned hotel that offers Zen-like hospitality, is offering a spa package called "Serenity in the City." It includes deluxe accommodations, complimentary gym access, a welcome basket filled with healthy goodies, a complimentary pass for the New York Sports Club, a late check-out -- and the option to choose from either a half-day (sauna, facial, and massage) or full-day course (sauna, facial, massage, slimming treatment, manicure, pedicure, and hair-styling) of spa treatments at the nearby Integree Spa on Fifth Avenue. Paris The deal: Le Six Hotel, a boutique hotel at the heart of Paris, is offering a special opening promotion. How much: Starting at €300 euros. When: Prices go up after December 26. London The deal: Go-today.com is offering a six-night, air-inclusive vacation to London called "London at its Best." The package includes round-trip airfare, six nights of hotel accommodations, a daily continental breakfast, hotel taxes and service charges, and airline fuel surcharges (though it doesn't include airport taxes and fees). How much: From $799. When: From Nov. 1 to Nov. 16; a Saturday night stay is required. Book by July 17. Typical cost for a similar trip: From about $1,300. Los Angeles The deal: The Hyatt Regency Century Plaza on L.A.'s Avenue of the Stars is offering the "What's the Rush?" package, which gives a fourth night free for those who stay three nights.How much: Pay for three nights to get a four-night stay. (Rates vary depending on class of room and dates booked, but the average per-night rate is $259.) When: Through September 9 Typical cost for a similar trip: At least 25% more. The deal, offered by BookIt.com, also includes two-for-one cocktails, VIP passes to local nightclubs, Wi-Fi, and use of beach towels and chairs. How much: $79 per night on weeknights; $149 on Friday and Saturday nights. Room upgrades are available for an additional $20. When: Through Sept. 30; book by June 25. Blackout dates are June 23-30, July 3-5, July 18-20, and Aug. 14-17. Typical cost for a similar trip: $159 per weeknight; $239 per Friday or Saturday night. And it's on sale now with round-trip fares significantly lower than normal published rates. To boot, when you book this offer, you also get 10,000 AAdvantage bonus miles -- enough for at least one free international flight on American Airlines. The deal is only available to U.S. citizens, and only for electronic tickets.How much: From $5,366 from San Francisco; from other cities will likely cost more. Price includes fuel and insurance surcharges and government taxes and fees. When: For travel between July 1 and Aug. 15; pre-register by July 14 to get the AAdvantage bonus miles. The offer is available until midnight on June 30, or until the airline deems it sold out. Travel on specific days of the week may be required. Typical cost for a similar trip: Hundreds of dollars more. Find it: On Cathay's website. Rome The deal: Ecruises.com is offering seven-day Mediterranean cruises at deep discounts. The Costa Concordia is a perfect option if you're already in Rome; it embarks from the Italian capital, then stops in Genoa, Barcelona, Palma de Majorca, Tunis, Valetta, and Sicily. Accommodations are in an interior stateroom, and hospitality is Italian-style. The rate also includes complimentary travel insurance. How much: From $549 When: Through Nov. 23. Moscow The deal: To celebrate American Airlines' new service from Chicago to Moscow (the airline also recently added Chicago-originated routes to Delhi, Shanghai, and Buenos Aires; it'll add Beijing next March), the airline is offering special economy-class fares, along with up to 10,000 bonus AAdvantage miles for round-trip travel to the Russian capital from most U.S. cities. How much: Tickets are reduced up to 25% less than normal prices. When: The discounted rates to Moscow are good through early September. The AAdvantage bonus miles offer lasts through Aug. 31.
