New Fees for Early Boarding, But Will You Pay?

Would you pay extra to board your flight sooner and "gain more time to store carry-on luggage"? That's what American Airlines (tel. 800/433-7300; www.aa.com)is now offering, for an additional fee, of course. Their new Boarding and Flexibility Package allows passengers to board flights earlier (in "Group 1", just after first, business, and elite frequent flyers). The package also allows you to standby for an earlier flight without paying AA's new $50 same day change fee, and it allows itinerary changes for $75 rather than the normal $150.

Look for this offer to be available in all markets, on all routes. Costs will vary depending on the length of flight.

Of course, Southwest Airlines already offers an early boarding option for $10 each way.

First Annual Airfarewatchdog Consumer Survey Results

Have you ever drooled on the shoulder of a stranger at 30,000 feet? Or fallen asleep with your mouth wide open? We sure have, and it looks like we're not alone. Many of our readers listed these as their most embarrassing travel moments in Airfarewatchdog's first annual consumer survey. Flyers were also very concerned about paying fees. Given the opportunity, 68% of respondents said they would fly at an inconvenient time of day with an additional connection in order to avoid fees.

And according to our readers, which airline has the friendliest flight attendants? And the rudest? Find out over in the Airfarewatchdog blog.
