British Airways 100,000 Miles for $75

The British Airways (tel. 800/247-9297; www.britishairways.com) Chase Visa card is offering 100,000 miles for acquiring the card and spending just $2,000 in the first three months. We've never seen an offer this generous before. That's enough miles for two "free" tickets (we use that word loosely, since there are always taxes and sometimes fees associated with frequent flyer programs and airline tickets) to Europe, or you can "spend" the miles on partner American Airlines. Plus you get an unusually generous 1.25 miles for every dollar charged, vs. the usual 1 mile. And if you have the card, you can save $50 on every BA fare by booking at www.ba.com/get50.

And if all that's not enough, every time you spend $30,000 or more on the card, you get a free companion certificate, valid for 2 years from issue, in any class of service. The annual fee for the card is $75. Apply here.

Holiday Ticket Changes

Trying to wrangle your family together during the holidays can be a real maneuver. Who's going to pick up Uncle Dudley and Aunt Brenda from the airport at 7am? Is Jennifer bringing her vegan friend? Where will everyone sleep? Is cousin Harold really just going to sit there, spooning that entire pint of Chubby Hubby into his mouth while you blow up his air mattress? Yes, he really is. Anyhoo, one thing you can count on? Some one in the fam will inevitably have to shorten their trip, or make some change to their ticket. Hey, it happens. Just don't expect much sympathy from your airline, especially at Thanksgiving. More on holiday ticket changes on our Q&A page.
