When an airline has a sale, the travel dates are usually limited and the buy-by date is just around the calendar's corner. With AirTran's (tel. 877/581-9842; www.airtran.com) latest promotion, they've struck one of these limitations off the list, since most travel is valid all the way through August 22, 2005. Still, you have only until March 10 to make a purchase.

Sample one-way routes and prices include:

  • Akron to Boston: $54
  • Atlanta to Indianapolis: $72
  • Baltimore (BWI) to Grand Bahama: $107
  • Chicago to Orlando: $102
  • Dallas to Los Angeles: $89
  • Philadelphia to Boston: $39

AirTran serves a slew of smaller mid-size markets, so if you live in Dayton, Rochester, Wichita, Milwaukee, Flint, Williamsburg or similar, be sure to plug your itinerary into the reservation form online to see what you can get. We still suggest comparison shopping with other carriers before making your purchase.

A few restrictions apply, of course, but not as many as are usually thrown into the mix. For example, sale fares are for one-way flights, meaning you don't have to purchase a roundtrip ticket to get the fare; and there's not Saturday night stay required. However, these fares are not available for Friday or Sunday departures, those days most convenient for leisure travelers.

Prices listed here do not include any taxes or security or airport fees, which are additional and will vary per departure point.
