Sceptre Tours (tel. 800/221-0924; www.sceptretours.com) takes you to Italy this fall for eight nights, from $1,399 per person with airfare and a weeklong car rental.

After you arrive in Rome, you'll pick up the rental car and drive to a suburb outside of Rome, where you'll spend two nights at Villa Vecchia. The hillside villa is about 12 miles from the city by car. From there, you'll head out of the city to the countryside of Tuscany for four nights at La Fattoria degli Usignoli. This four-star property, in Reggello about 17 miles from Florence, was built in the 14th century. Wind your way through the countryside to Park Hotel Bolognese, in the walled town of Treviso, about 15 miles from the famed canals of Venice.

Why is this a deal? If you were to book the airfare independently, mid-September flights start at $847 with one stop (nonstop flights start from $1,353). Eight nights' hotel come to €1,266 ($1,667), or $833.50 per person. If you booked this package independently, expect to pay at least $1,680.50 per person just for airfare and hotels. Adding the car rental (about $450 for two people) brings the trip price to about $1,906 per person. Compare that to the Sceptre Tours package price (from $1,399), and you can easily save about $507 per person.
