Five Nights in the Dominican Republic, from $559 With Air

Save about $325 by booking this air-inclusive Dominican Republic package, which includes five nights at a new resort in Puerto Plata.

Cheap Caribbean (tel. 800/915-2322; www.cheapcaribbean.com) is known for its unbeatably low prices on package trips to the Caribbean, and this Dominican Republic deal is no exception: five all-inclusive nights in Puerto Plata, from $559 per person with airfare.

The former Sun Village Resort will have a grand reopening on Dec. 1 as Cofresi Palm Beach Resort and Spa. The package includes a standard room (one king or two queen beds) with a private balcony. The resort has two pools (one for children), nine restaurants (you'll never be hungry), 15 bars, a full-service spa, and a kids' club. Guests also have full access to the restaurants, pools, and beachfront at the neighboring Lifestyle Tropical Resort. If you want to get a sense of the town of Puerto Plata itself, it's about 20 minutes away by taxi. Visit its historic colonial-era fort, shop for the best selection of amber in the country, or take a stroll on its waterfront promenade, El Malecón.

Why is this a deal? The fare for a nonstop flight from Miami to Puerto Plata starts at $487 per person, with taxes, according to a Kayak search. The grand opening sale (rooms from $39) represents a 55% savings off the resort's regular rates of $99 per person per night.

Booking airfare and hotel independently would cost $982 per person. The package costs $658 ($559 plus $99 for the taxes and fees), so booking with Cheap Caribbean saves you about $325. More to the point, though -- those discounted room rates are a Cheap Caribbean exclusive, so you won't be able to duplicate them on your own.

All prices are per person and, if lodging is a component of the package, based upon two people traveling together (unless otherwise noted). The prices listed are general starting rates; see "What Else You'll Have to Pay" for details about associated taxes and fees. Base-prices, taxes, and fees can vary based on point of departure and time of travel. Blackout dates may apply. Trip add-ons like sightseeing tours and meal plans may also increase the price. Check with the tour operator for additional gateways. The single supplement is the extra cost that a solo traveler would pay to book the deal.
