Go-Today (tel. 800/227-3235; is now offering trips to Central and South America. Book this four-night Costa Rica vacation by Oct. 23 to receive a $50 discount for readers (the four-night package is regularly $799).

Stay at the Playa Espadilla Hotel, a two-minute walk to the beach and within easy walking distance to Manuel Antonio National Park. While you're hiking through the park, you may spy four species of monkeys or scarlet macaws. The property itself overlooks a biological reserve, which the hotel owns.

Why is this a deal? According to a Kayak search, non-stop airfare starts at $478, including taxes. If booked online, four nights at the Playa Espadilla Hotel would cost $480-$600, or about $240-$300 per person.

If you book separately, you're looking at a minimum of $718-$778 for four nights' hotel and airfare, with taxes. A five-day rental would cost about $150, or at least $75 per person before taxes. That brings the airfare/hotel/car rental total to at least $793-$853, or $819-$879 with taxes.

After factoring in the government taxes and fees ($106), the $799 Go-Today package would cost $905 (or $855 after the special $50 discount). So why go with a package? On a trip this short, sometimes it's worth turning the booking details over to someone else so you can just relax. And in competitive market such as Costa Rica, there's no guarantee you'll be able to book every element and get the same prices; with a package, you have a better idea of what to expect.
