America's love affair with Hawaii goes well beyond it becoming the 50th state. Pearl Harbor has forever ensconced Hawaii in the hearts of American servicemen the world over for its strategic position and unforgettable memorial. Hawaii, from the Big Island to Maui to Kauai to Oahu, has a natural beauty that visitors are drawn to again and again.

Pleasant Holidays (tel. 800/742-9244; www.pleasantholidays.com) has several deals to Hawaii with the cheapest prices based on departures out of Los Angeles. Starting at around $475, a five-night special with round-trip airfare on United Airlines out of Los Angeles to Waikiki includes accommodations at the Castle Island Colony. Travel is good from April 26 to June 1, 2006 with Wednesday and Thursday departures. A trip out of La Guardia in New York with travel good from April 20 through May 18, 2006 starts at $764 with all airfare and hotel accommodations included in the package price. Additional security fees and departure taxes come to around $45 per person. The prices for these deals are based on double occupancy accommodations. The beach is three blocks away from the hotel, which is located in downtown Waikiki. The fifth night is free with this affordable package. Another six-day/five-night trip from Pleasant Holidays including accommodations at Aston Maui Lu starts at $586 for departures out of San Francisco. Travel for this trip is also good from April 26, 2006 to June 1, 2006. The budget conscious yet very clean and quiet hotel is across the street from two private beach coves. Pleasant Holidays' Website is very easy to use, with a pull-down menu offering departure cities with changing rates based on your choice of gateways.

To get to Hawaii on your own, Hawaiian Airlines (tel. 800/367-5320; www.hawaiianair.com) has nonstop round-trip "Spring Specials" between Honolulu and the mainland United States. The following chart shows the available travel deals including a round-trip special from Phoenix for $320.

Other air specials go to Maui and back from Portland for $570 and Seattle for $604. Travel on both these fares is good from April 18 to June 8, 2006. Taxes and departure fees shouldn't exceed $25 per ticket. Certain dates are restricted and of course these prices are subject to availability. For a $100, you can fly to a neighboring island as long as the connection time between flights is less than four hours.

Hawaiian Airlines also offers vacation packages and hot deals from West coast destinations starting at $1,102 that include airfare and accommodations for four nights. Travel is good out of Los Angeles and San Francisco with travel good from April 18 to June 8, 2006 during the week. Accommodations are at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, a magnificent beachfront hotel with over 600 rooms. The hotel is consistently voted one of the finest hotels on the island. All rooms have views of the ocean, the lagoons or the Haupu Mountains. A similar five-night trip to the Big Island's Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort hotel starts at $1,164 per person based on double occupancy accommodations with airfare out of Los Angeles. Good through June 30, 2006, the package also includs free daily breakfast and a fifth night free. All taxes are included in this deal that's good only for Thursday till Tuesday travel.

For those willing to splurge, Perillo Tours (tel. 800/431-1515; www.perillotours.com) has a fully-escorted, nine-day and three-island tour offering first class accommodations, a professional guide at your service at all times, a pre-planned sightseeing itinerary, all airport transfers, daily American breakfast, and all baggage handling for $2,874. Extras include 15 total meals, cultural events like Lei giving, a sunset Mai-Tai, a luau cocktail party, and an optional helicopter tour of the scenic coastlines and vegetative beauty. The trip hits all the major sites in Waikiki, Kauai, and Maui. In Oahu, you'll visit the world famous Pearl Harbor Memorial and in Maui, the Haleakala Crater. Departures are six to eight times monthly on Monday and Wednesdays from April 2006 through November.
