Caribbean island lovers rejoice -- there is a destination that you can visit during the dreaded hurricane season (June to October) that has remained unscathed by hurricanes (apart from rain obviously) for decades. This year, the Barbados Tourism Authority (tel. 800/221-9831; www.visitbarbados.org) is going the extra mile to provide would-be visitors with so many incentives and discounts that you'll be hard pressed to think of reasons not to go. Savings for traveling this summer and fall are in the "hard to believe" category, but instead of looking for the catch, be quick with your booking as these deals must be purchased by June 30, 2006.

The "Best of Barbados" program offers a plethora of savings including up to $800 per couple off regular prices for airfare and accommodation packages, free accommodation and meals for children, meal vouchers, first night free offers, buy one get the second half off at various attractions and breakfast daily. The package is available at over 30 participating hotels throughout the island, catering to all tastes and budgets -- from romantic rendezvous to family vacations. Properties include the Turtle Beach Resort, Amaryllis Beach Resort, Almond Beach Club, The Crane Resort and Crystal Cove Hotel to name a few. Attractions include snorkeling trips, submarine adventures, tours, dinner cruises, golf and 4x4 safari trips.

Seven night packages with round-trip airfare from Miami start from $399 per person plus taxes -- it would cost you less to stay at home. The package includes:

  • An air credit of $200 per person -- $400 per couple
  • First night free at participating hotels -- minimum value of $80 per couple
  • Free full breakfast daily -- worth $280 per couple
  • $25 meal voucher per couple
  • Buy one get second at half price at participating attractions
  • Minimum seven night stay required
  • Valid from June 15 to December 2 with black out dates from July 15 to August 12
  • Travel during the month of September and receive a special September bonus of an additional $100 air credit, bringing the total air credit to $300 per person.

These packages can be booked through a variety of different travel agencies, airlines and websites. For example, Jet-A-Way Holidays (tel. 877/289-1030; www.jetawayholidays.com) is offering round-trip airfare on American Airlines, Delta or U.S. Airways from Miami, Orlando, Atlanta or Philadelphia with seven nights' accommodation at Allamanda Beach Resort in St. Michael's parish on the South Coast of Barbados, breakfast daily and hotel taxes from $379 per person. Travel is valid between September 1 and 30, 2006 or add $100 for August 15 to November 15, 2006 and $160 from now until July 14 and from November 16 to December 2, 2006. The lowest prices are available for travel Mondays to Thursdays with a $60 weekend surcharge. Add $50 from Dallas, $80 from Boston or New York, $100 from Chicago and $270 from Houston or Los Angeles. You must book by June 30, 2006.

Cheap Caribbean (tel. 800/915-2322; www.cheapcaribbean.com) is offering the package staying at the five-sun rated Crane Resort and Residences. The deal includes round-trip flights on a major airline to Barbados, seven-nights in a junior garden view suite at The Crane Resort and Residences, an air credit of $300 per person, full American breakfast provided each day at the hotel, ground Transportation to and from the airport, one child under 12 stays free with paying adults, a coupon for a variety of discounts on the island, buy one, get one at 50 percent

off at a variety of on-island attractions including transportation to and from the attraction and one admission per person to the Authentic Fish Fry Experience, including dinner. This deal is priced at $549 from Miami and $599 price from the following departure cities: New York, Boston, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Tampa, Raleigh Durham, Orlando, Hartford and Atlanta. Travel is valid from September 1 to October 1, 2006 and you must book by June 30, 2006. This package is also available for a low price over the July 4th long weekend with July 1, 2006 departures from $769 from Miami and $819 from the various other departure cities listed above. Stay in a Beachfront superior room at the three-sun Coconut Court Beach Resort starting from $489 per person from Miami with the same Best of Barbados package included elements. Valid for travel from August 19 to 31 and October 1 to December 31, 2006.
