March 19, 2004 -- Only two weeks ago we told you about a variety of bargains across the South Pacific, the quintessential spot for romantics. Now, there is more of the same for Tahiti, extended into spring.
The Air Tahiti Nui people have a Spring Special from $799 that includes roundtrip air from Los Angeles, five nights on Moorea at the Hotel Kaveka in a lanai bungalow, inter-island travel via high-speed ferry, all transfers and baggage handling, a floral lei on arrival and a shell lei on departure. (You need the ferry to get from Papeete's airport to the island, and back.) You should ask for special offer ATN2360A or just go to the website and click on "Tahiti Specials." This offer is valid for travel through May 31, 2004, with some restrictions. Airport taxes and fees equaling about $70 are not included. Go-Today has a similar deal, also ending May 31, 2004, and starting at $799, but this is for a deluxe hotel in Papeete, on the island of Tahiti itself. You get roundtrip air on an available carrier, four nights at the Sofitel Maeva Beach in a garden view room, hotel VAT (Value Added Tax) and government taxes. If you want to upgrade to a panoramic view at the same hotel, you pay $999. A city tax of about $1.60 per person per night is collected at the hotel and cannot be prepaid. Departure is from Los Angeles, with add-ons ranging from $250 (for Reno or San Francisco) to $450 (Anchorage). The original purchase deadline date in mid March was extended to May 25, 2004, when we called to ask about it.
Go-Today has other deals to Tahiti and Moorea, ranging from $1,199 to $1,999, with deadlines for purchasing ranging from May 19 through December 6, 2004, for travel from March 21 through December 12, 2004. They are all for eight days/seven nights. One is for Tahiti and Bora Bora ($1,699 to $1,999), another for Tahiti and Moorea ($1,299 to $1,599), the third for Papeete exclusively ($1,199 to $1,399).
