Even if it's tough to find a place to "get away" from loud New Year's revelry, celebratory shakers and paper hats with rubber band chin ties, it isn't that difficult to find a spot to count down the last days of 2005 other than your hometown.
Not surprisingly, Travelocity (tel. 888/872.8356; www.travelocity.com) is coming up big with New Year's offerings. The site is featuring trips from most gateways to cities all over the United States such as Los Angeles; Miami; Memphis; Chicago; Washington, D.C.; New York City; Atlanta; and Nassau in the Bahamas. A New Year's trip from NYC to the nation's capital will cost $237.44 per person for airfare and three-nights' accommodations at a number of hotels including the Latham Georgetown Hotel in the center of quaint Georgetown near shops, restaurants and bars. For a warm weather break, Travelocity offers a Friday to Sunday trip to Los Angeles from New York with roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations at the Spring Hill Suites in Manhattan Beach, an upscale beach town suburb of Los Angeles famous for beach volleyball and bikinis. The two-night trip starts at $496 per person. You can walk to the beach from the hotel.
From Chicago, Travelocity has trips to Puerto Rico that can even get you away in time for Christmas. To spend the holiday in the warm waters of Puerto Rico, you can depart on Christmas Eve, Saturday 24, 2005, and return on Tuesday, December 27, 2005; it's base-priced from $425 with accommodations at the downtown San Juan Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino. The hotel looks out onto the Atlantic Ocean and the hotel's lagoon and has a full-service, large casino area for some holiday gambling.
To spend New Year's in Costa Rica, Vacations Costa Rica (tel: 800/606-1860; www.vacationscostarica.com) has vacations available over the New Year's holiday. Because of availability, Costa Rica Vacations advises you call them immediately for up-to-the-minute prices and departure dates. Most of the trips leave just after Christmas and return on January 1, 2006. Your choice of vacation type and hotel near beach, jungle, rainforest or volcanoes are currently available.
FunJet Vacations (tel. 888/558-6654, www.funjet.com) has a Cancun trip out of Dallas/Ft.
