So it's August already and you haven't taken summer getaway. That may turn out to be a very smart move. In the past few weeks, hotels have launched some nice promos in the hopes of enticing you to take a last-minute family vacation between now and Labor Day. Here are four ways to get away without going broke this month:

Deal #1: Stay a weekend, snag a $75 prepaid MasterCard

If funds are tight, opt for a weekend getaway or two. IHG, a group of seven hotel brands from upscale InterContinental to the raft of family-friendly Holiday Inn properties, has introduced what is essentially a rebate program for guests this summer. The Vacation Pay promo (https://vacationpay.ihg.com) promises a $75 prepaid MasterCard when you stay two consecutive weekend nights at any of IHG's 4,400 worldwide properties before August 31. Participating chains include InterContentental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.

Up to four rebates are permitted per household, so you could get back as much as $300. There are some hoops to jump through (registering, filling out and mailing forms, etc.) but if you have plans to travel this summer and don't mind the legwork, you could enjoy a tidy windfall come fall.

Deal #2: Save 30% at San Diego's Manchester Grand Hyatt

San Diego is known for its not-so-urban attractions -- its famous zoo, theme parks and the beach -- but staying downtown can give you good access to all of them (especially the Zoo and Balboa Park's musuems). The bonus? San Diego's downtown hotels tend to offer very competitive rates compared to many of the city's outlying areas.

A great example is the Manchester Grand Hyatt (http://manchestergrand.hyatt.com), the city's tallest hotel at 40 stories high, which offers great bay views. The hotel has a pool, firepits, tennis and a spa, and is walking distance from the city's lively Gaslamp Quarter, the New Children's Museum, Petco Park (home of the Padres) and city trolleys that can take you to Old Town. For the rest of this year, the hotel is offering a Stay More Save More promotion (http://manchestergrand.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/offers/): Stay three nights and save 30% off your rate. Added perks: Kids 12 and under eat breakfast free at the hotel's Lael's restaurant, and dogs stay free.

When we checked some August dates, we found a very reasonable rate of $139 a night for a room with two doubles, down from the regular rate of $199 a night, which translates to a tidy 30% savings. More good news: You can upgrade to a view room for just $25 more a night. On summer evenings, that view may include the nightly fireworks over SeaWorld.

The promo will run through December 31 with, as always, some blackout dates. Three nights is both the minimum and maximum stay for the promo, and you must pre-pay this non-refundable rate. When booking online, use promo code SUN, or ask for it when calling tel. 800/492-8804.

Deal #3: New waterpark and sale at Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld

What do you get when you head for a brand new Florida water attraction on your family vacation? Happy kids. Throw in discounted hotel rates plus free breakfasts and you'll see mom and dad smile, too. The Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld (www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/mcosr-renaissance-orlando-at-seaworld/), located directly across from the popular marine attraction and its sister park Discovery Cove, now boasts its own waterpark. The R Aqua Zone is an interactive water playground complete with two twisting, turning water slides, periscope guns, a water windmill, rain tree, gyroscope spinner and more. There's a play area designed for tweens and teens, and toddlers have their own pint-sized playzone.

The resort is celebrating the R Aqua Zone's grand opening by offering a Splash & Stay promo price (www.renaissanceseaworldorlando.com/R-Aqua-Zone-84.html): a flat rate of $89 per night on stays between August 7 and October 1. Plus, kids under 12 eat breakfast free. When we test-booked a weekend stay in August we found that the $89 nightly rate with the promo was $30 less than the $119 leisure rate, for a savings of about 25%. That promo rate translates to even bigger savings on a weekend in September, when the leisure rate jumps to $179 per night. (We found that available dates for the promo rate get scarce at the end of September, so keep that in mind.)

Blackout dates and other restrictions apply, and you must book by August 31 to get the special rate. Book online with promo code SUM or call tel. 800/327-667 and ask for the Splash & Stay package.

Deal #4: Stay & Play package at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort, Florida

The LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort (www.laplayaresort.com) straddles the Gulf of Mexico and Vanderbilt Bay in Naples, Florida and blends boutique hotel-chic with the Gulf Coast's laid-back attitude, resulting in a vibe that's upscale but not too stuffy. The 64-acre property boasts a golf course, spa, three pools, an award-winning beachside restaurant, and an impressive line-up of water toys from waverunners and pedal boats to kayaks. Most guest rooms are just steps off the beach.

With the resort's Stay & Play package (www.laplayaresort.com/laplaya_packages), guests earn a daily $50 resort credit that can be used for food and beverages, spa services, golf and even gift shop purchases. Plus, the resort is waiving the $17 daily resort fee, throwing in valet parking (a savings of $23 a day), and shaving 50% off golf greens fees (worth $35 per person, per round). The package starts at $199 a night.

We price-checked a poolview double room in August. If you book with the promo, you'll pay $279 and receive a $50 credit. For the same dates, the best-available regular rate comes in at $259 a night. Once you factor in the value of the promo perks -- valet parking ($23), resort fee ($17), and $50 credit -- you're looking at a comparative tab of $349 a night. So the promo delivers a savings of about $70 a night, shaving 26% off your total spend.

The savings holds true for longer stays, too. A four-night stay for that poolside double room would total $1,116 in August with the offer, plus you'd get a $200 credit to spend as you like. If you don't book with the promo, you'd spend $1,396 for the room plus valet parking ($23/day x 4 = $92) and the resort fee ($17/day x 4 = $68), and you wouldn't get that resort credit ($200). In all, you'd save $280 with the promo, or around 20%. If you golf on the resort's course, you'll save there, too.

The offer expires September 30 and is subject to availability. Book online or call tel. 800/237-6883 and use promo code PLAY.
