Spring is an excellent time of year to book a Caribbean getaway, as marquee resorts pull out all the stops to fill their rooms through the summer and fall. Here are three travel promotions that caught our eye:
Save up to 53% with Club Med's Family PlanFor families looking for a resort that delivers a relaxed yet active vacation, Club Med (www.clubmed.com) delivers plenty: all-inclusive pricing, good food, great kids' programming (including, at some properties, cooking classes and a circus school with trapeze workshops), and an impressive array of sporty and learning activities. Club Med recently put its money-saving, seven-night Family Plan back on the table at all seven of its family resorts around the globe.
We price-checked weeklong stays at several Club Med properties and found that the Family Plan saves up to 53% off the published rack rate. Prices vary depending on property and dates. The least expensive option: $599 per person for seven nights during the autumn at the newly-revamped Club Med Sandpiper in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Still haven't booked spring break? For $924 per person you can nab a week at Club Med Punta Cana or Club Med Cancun.
To take advantage of this offer, book by May 2 and travel before Dec. 17. As always, there are some restrictions and blackout dates. Book online or call tel. 888/WEB-CLUB and ask for the Family Plan.
Deal or No Deal? Fourth Night Free Plus One Free Airfare to AtlantisDreaming of taking the kids to the Caribbean über-resort Atlantis? The 4,000-room hotel is promising what amounts to a 25%-off deal if you book by April 25. You can travel anytime before Dec. 21, with no blackout dates.
The sprawling Paradise Island resort has big-name restaurants (featuring, say, Bobby Flay), a casino, and an endless supply of kids' activities, including dolphin interactions, a toddler camp, a tweens arcade, and a dance club for teens. For the whole family, there's a 141-acre "waterscape" with pools, saltwater lagoons, and a ginormous water park. Here's what the package includes:
- One free airline ticket per room (in June, a nonstop roundtrip from Atlanta to Nassau is going for a whopping $450/person)
- One free night if you pay for three nights (in June, rooms start at $371/night for a family of four)
- Kids 11 and under eat breakfast and dinner free (worth about $30/day per child)
Note that the kids-eat-free perk is always available, even without the special offer, and only if you buy the grown-up dining plan, which starts at $50 a day per adult. Still a good deal, if you don't mind giving up some flexibility.
Deal or No Deal? Any offer that lets a family of four shave 25% off its airfare and lodging bill -- the trip's major expenses -- qualifies as a good deal in our book, even before the free kids' meals. The biggest catches are that (a) the trip must be pre-paid and (b) you still pay taxes and fees on that free fourth night.
You can book online using the specials link, or by calling tel. 800-ATLANTIS (285-2684).
Deal or No Deal? 20% off, plus perks at Puerto Rico Hilton PropertiesFor many families, Puerto Rico makes for an easy way to snag an exotic, international vacation without needing a passport. Seven Hiltons on the Caribbean island are now offering a Puerto Rico is Exciting package that includes:
- 20% discount on hotel rates
- A resort credit on a sliding scale: $25 if you stay two nights, $50/three nights, $75/four nights and $100/five nights
- Discounts on family-friendly tours (for example, fourth person goes free for snorkeling, worth $69)
- $25 casino voucher
Deal or No Deal? Si, si! While the tour discounts and casino vouchers are gimmes that you might never use, it's hard to argue with a 20 % price break plus a resort credit. When we checked early summer rates for a few participating resorts, the package delivered on its promised savings. At the El Conquistador Resort, for example, we found a rate of $159 per night -- which is indeed $40 (or 20 %) off the regular $199-a-night rate for a standard room with two queens. Outside El Yunque Rain Forest, the big beach resort has a huge water park, a private island, a kids' club for ages 4 to 12, a spa, and golf.
To take advantage of this package, book by April 30 and travel by Oct. 9. There is a two-night minimum stay. Look for the package when entering dates, then check the "PR is Exciting" box, or use promotion code "P2" when booking online. Alternatively, mention the deal when calling tel. 888/564-1307. Blackout dates may apply and vary by property.
