If you are ready to book a trip to the Caribbean but not sure where, consider St. Lucia (www.stlucia.org). It's small but diverse -- lots of natural wonders to enjoy via windsurfing, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, swimming, bird and whale watching, and hiking. More to the point: this week's smart deal offers a special that takes about 50 per cent off when a trip is booked through a site set up by Liberty Travel, the packager of the promotion, called St. Lucia Now. (tel. 877-LIBERTY; www.stlucianow.com) by April 30. In practical terms, this means that you can book a trip for as little as $575, a price that includes round-trip airfare from New York-JFK and three nights at beachfront Coco Kreole, a new boutique beachfront property on the northern tip of the island, near Rodney Bay. The promotion is valid for travel through June 20th and began on March 11. You can call Liberty Travel to book; the flights are arranged through American Airlines.
One attractive aspect of this promotion is that you can visit the website and choose from a range of different properties and trip lengths, starting at three nights/four days and extending to seven nights and eight days. Some of the properties are offering heightened savings during specific time periods, such as the Sandals Regency La Toc Golf Resort and Spa, and the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa and Beach Resort, both located in Castries. The price is significantly higher, but it's an all-inclusive affair--from $1,249 and $1,369 respectively -- valid for travel May 1-June 30. If you want something completely different, such as a smaller hotel, there's even a portal whose guesthouses, inns, and villas are included -- INNtimate St. Lucia (www.inntimatestlucia.org), site run by the St. Lucia Tourist Board.
