Looking for an island vacation but jut haven't committed to a destination yet? JetBlue Getaways (tel. 800/JET-BLUE; www.jetblue.com) is having a Blue Moon Sale in honor of the blue moon on May 20 -- which, just to refresh your science memory, happens when there are four full moons falling within the same season. The special includes roundtrip airfare from New York-JFK to St. Maarten (that's the Dutch half of the island; St. Martin is the French side) from $615 per person, based on availability and Jet Blue's original pricing. The sale is valid for a four-night stay through June 30; you must book by May 31, however. Prices do not include airline taxes and fees of an additional $94.15 and they are based on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday departures. When you get to the website, click on "vacations" and you'll see the Blue Moon special.
Guests can choose from the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino, the Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort and Casino, or the Westin St. Maarten Dawn Beach Resort and Spa. Either way, the package includes four nights, daily breakfast (at Great Bay), and a complimentary upgrade to the next room category. Sonesto Maho (with 537 rooms) has its own nightclub and casino, and spa, whereas Sonesta Great Bay, a slightly smaller (257 rooms) is located on one mile of the island's southwest shore, near the capital of Philipsburg. The rooms at the Westin have either a balcony or a patio, and the property itself has an infinity pool, a casino, and is situated on a sandy white beach near the capital of Philipsburg.
If you need to depart from somewhere other than New York, there are eleven other gates possible including Las Vegas, Boston, and Washington, D.C./Dulles.
