After a gangbusters start to the ski season, January was a bit lackluster as far as the snowfall was concerned. But the storm cycle ramped up again in mid-February with a vengeance, delivering a couple of whoppers to the Lake Tahoe area before contributing significant tallies to many resorts in the Rockies, with more in the immediate forecast.
It may be nearing the spring equinox, but the ski season is far from over: March and April are the snowiest months at most resorts in the West. And as the days elongate, the temperatures climb, and spring break approaches, there's still plenty of time to plan a snow-centric getaway -- and there are still plenty of deals to be had.
California Ski Deals: Lake Tahoe
Besides the phenomenal snowfall, the Lake Tahoe area has a slew of spring deals. Heavenly is offering a ski-and-stay package that includes a fourth night of lodging and a third night of lodging free. Alpine Meadows and Homewood host College Week (March 14-20), offering students $29 lift tickets and lodging deals from $35 per night for dorm-style lodging. Kirkwood dropped its season pass price to $199 for the remainder of the season and is offering midweek ski-and-stay deals from $89 per person per night. Squaw Valley is selling the Squaw Legend 3-Pack for $189 (nearly 30% off) and free lift tickets on the day of your flight. Tahoe Dave's is a good bet for rentals: The fifth day is free, and you can pick up your rentals the night before and exchange at five locations.
Ski Deals in Utah
In Park City, the swanky Sky Lodge is offering the EAT.SKI.LOVE couples package for about $750 per night with a two-night minimum. A bit of a splurge, yes, but the perks -- a suite with a private hot tub, champagne, lift tickets to either Park City Mountain Resort or Deer Valley, dinner, and a $100 spa credit -- are numerous. The package is available through the end of Park City's ski season (April 10). At Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon, the Inn at Solitude is offering a Storm Chaser deal through season's end starting at $167 per person per night. The package includes lodging and lift tickets, as well as breakfast and demo rentals, with a two-night minimum.
Wyoming Ski Deals
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has extended its 4th Flies Free deal: Book three flights by March 25 to visit by April 3 and the fourth ticket is free (five-night minimum).
Colorado Ski Deals
Winter Park Resort is offering a 4th Night Free deal at several slopeside properties. Rates start as low as $45 per person per night with a four-night minimum through season's end (April 24).
Ski Deals in Alberta, Canada
Spring ski-and-stay packages start at $80 per person per night at the "Big 3" resorts in Banff National Park (Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise, and Sunshine Village); more luxurious packages at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise start at $121 per person per night.
Vermont Ski Deals & Discounts
Mount Snow has green beer, green eggs, live music, and $17 lift tickets on St. Patrick's Day (March 17). Starting March 20, Bolton Valley has ski-and-stay packages starting at $89 per person per night and its annual spring rite of Pond Skimming with costumed contestants trying to maintain momentum over a man-made pond at the base. Burke Mountain Resort honors any season pass in March with $35 lift tickets (nearly 50% off). Sugarbush Resort has end-of-season midweek ski-and-stay deals starting at $109 per person per night, and ski-and-stay weekend packages at Okemo Mountain Resort in March start under $140 per person per night.
